ADMO Art Walk 2024!
DC Arts Center and ADMO bid collaborated to select about 20 artists from the DMV area to partner with businesses in Adams Morgan to create a public gallery for anyone walking through the Adams Morgan area! I'm very excited to have been selected this year and show my work at Duplex Diner for the entirety of April!
The incentive is for people walking by to see the work in the window space and become interested enough to enter the establishment to view more art, grab a bite, or both!
The Art Walk is open and free to the general public and DC Arts Center is even providing free guided tours on the weekends. For more information about me, other participating artists, or the guided tours, please click the link below!
Internal X External World
(Isabella's second solo exhibition)
Concept of Internal X External World
I named the show “Internal X External World” because all the pieces in the show either reflect my “internal world” or the “external world” around me.
When viewing my “internal world” work, viewers might feel comfortable, seen, empathetic, sad, or uncomfortable. When viewing my “external world” work, viewers might feel anger, solidarity, sadness, incapability, and discomfort.
There are similar themes within the artworks like, depression, struggle, anger, escape, confusion, play, discovery, hope, journey, liberation, dreaming, and nostalgia. Topics of war, women's suffrage, protest, climate change and genocide are also depicted in different pieces.
I hope the work in this show creates an emotional reaction within the viewer. My overarching incentive with my work has always been forging feelings of empathy within the viewer, while producing visually enticing work. Expressing my internal struggles through art and also creating social and political commentary is significant to who I’am as an artist.
About the show
This solo exhibition being my second, I chose to show more versatility within the medium and styles I work in. During my first solo exhibition I received positive feedback about my graffiti styled piece, an abstract piece, and their respective concepts.
Since then I’ve created more intimate work within the graffiti art form, and created four new graffiti styled pieces. Expanding on different styles of graffiti is something I’ve always had interest in doing since I was a kid. I’m glad I'm able to work within that domain, even through all the scrutiny the art form has inherited.
I’ve created a new 30x40 piece that is covered in 112 doodled sticky notes. Over the past year I have been trying to uncover the fun and magic within art again. There is a lightness and liberation within the art form because there isn't pressure to create anything complex. I also find doodling fun and I hope to make bigger “doodle” work in the future.
The abstract pieces in the show are a part of my “Searching for Freedom” series. My graffiti piece from my first solo exhibition “Searching for Fun” and my 48x36 piece “Who is God” is also in the show.
Internal X External World is currently showing at Rhizome DC from March 1st to the 31st.
